The Paper
Back To Case StudiesThe Paper is a 36 page newspaper written, edited and put together by young people between the ages of 10 to 16 with the support of local newspapers, journalists, photographers and corporate sponsors.
The editorial team and reporters interact though a PHP database driven website which Black Pig developed. All content, images and graphics are submitted via the system in an electronic format to make production a swift and simple process.
The website also allows readers and contributors to view the progress of the current issue and to respond to story ideas requests from the editor.
The online production process provides schools with a flexible resource which aids many curriculum subjects and instils a sense of purpose for students. The end process produces a final printed resource to encourage and support the literacy standard in schools.
The project is supported by the Cambridgeshire Learning and Skills council, Cambridgeshire Education Business Link Organisation, Cambridge Newspapers, Mid-Anglia Newspapers and Nokia.
Black Pig has also created a range of offline collateral to support the project including the logo and identity for The Paper, A3 posters and press passes to support training sessions for participants.
